Call for Papers: The Israeli Conference on Intelligence Studies

The Israeli Forum for Intelligence Studies (IFIS), with the support of The Institute for the Research of the Methodology of Intelligence (IRMI) at the Israeli Intelligence Heritage Center (IICC), The Security Studies Program at Tel Aviv University, and the Israeli Ministry of Intelligence, will hold its annual conference marking 50 years since the surprise attack that started the Yom Kippur War of 1973.
Senior officials from the Israeli government and intelligence community will be speaking at the conference, as well as scholars and intelligence practitioners from around the world.
1. Failures and strategic surprises. Research that advances our historical and theoretical knowledge on the factors shaping success and failure in intelligence.
2. Emerging technologies and advanced methods in intelligence collection and analysis. Research that deals with the implications of emerging technologies on the practices, patterns, and organization of intelligence services, as well as with advanced methods in collection and analysis.
3. Intelligence in society. Research that focuses on the role of intelligence services in confronting new challenges and threats of global and/or civilian nature (e.g., pandemics, climate change, disinformation) or that deals with intelligence in democratic societies, with an emphasis on policymaking, oversight, openness, and public attitudes.
4. The sociocultural aspects of intelligence. Research that expands our understanding of intelligence through the prisms of gender, culture, and social and organizational processes that underlie intelligence work.
Proposals of 200 words maximum should be submitted by Sunday, July 16, 2023, using the online form: https://forms.gle/fvCqrmgg3NSm2o4f8.

** In case your paper is accepted, all travel expenses will have to be covered by you.
